1.Title	What is the title of your presentation?     What are the names of the authors?     Do you have a picture of the Erie Canal?
2.Making of the Erie Canal	What is a canal? How is a canal different from other water passages?     Why was the Erie Canal built? (Was there any challenge to the building of this – any naysayers? What’s the history there?)     How is the canal useful? (How WAS the canal helpful at the time, and how IS it helpful now?)
3.Geography of the Erie Canal	Include a map of the Erie Canal on this slide.     What two major bodies of water are connected by the Erie Canal?     Which cities in New York State are along the Erie Canal?
4.Uses of the Erie Canal	What was the Erie Canal originally used for?      What do you think it is used for today? How did the Canal change the way people were doing things at the time?
5.Important People and Dates	Who was involved in the building of the Erie Canal? (Were there any specific groups who participating in the building – immigrants, e.g.  Did those people remain in the area?  Are their descendants there today?     When did construction begin?      When did it end? (Is there another construction job to which you can compare this, either something from that time or this?  How long did it take to build the Tappan Zee Bridge, e.g.)
6.Interesting Facts	What is the length, width and depth of the canal?     What is a lock? How /when were locks invented?     What types of boats travel the canal? Add a description of different types of boats that were typical at the time.     What types of animals helped to build the canal? (What would people use for animal strength today?  Compare the strength (horsepower) or a back hoe, for example, to the strength of specific animals?
7.About the Author	Include a phtograph of yourself. Did you explain a little about yourself?     What did you find most interesting about the Erie Canal?
