Introduction:
New Year's Day is on Monday, January 1st. At
this time many people make a 'resolution'. A resolution is something you
make at the beginning of something 'new'. People like to have a fresh
start, change old ways, begin again. Just like in the beginning of a new
school year students are determined to do well, get good grades, make a
new friend. What is your resolution? What would you like to change about
yourself to become a better person, a better student, a better friend?
Task:
Before you begin your task we would like you to sit back, relax
and watch this movie
on how other people around the world celebrate the New Year.
Now... read the task below to find out what you have to do for this
project.
You will each be asked to do two things:
1. Compose your own New Year's Resolution.
2. Create a 2001 classroom calendar.
Process:
1. You will be given time to write your resolution in your classroom.
Your resolution should be well thought out and something you really plan
to do. You will publish your resolution using the program Microsoft Publisher.
These will be made into a class book.
2. You will come to computer class with your resolution and work
to publish it using the software program called Microsoft Publisher.
3. When your resolution is completed it will be proofread
and printed.
4. A class book will be bound.
5. You will then be given a partner to work with to start on the
2001 calendar. You will be assigned a month to be in charge
of. Your job is to find out the following things about your month. Use
the template that your teacher gives you to
write down the information that you need.
-
Do any classmates have a birthday during that month? When are they?
-
Are there any national holidays that happen during that month? When
are they?
-
What else happens during your month that you would like to add?
6. You will have one week to get the needed information for your calendar.
7. You will enter your calendar information into the program called
Print
Artist.
8. Once you are finished it will be proofread and printed
out. Each of you will get a copy of this wonderful calendar.
